SECURITY SYSTEMS NEWS
THE BUSINESS NEWSPAPER FOR THE SECURITY SYSTEM INTEGRATOR & INSTALLER;0]
ATCI adds wireless with JBE Tech.
Firm increases Fla. and Latin American presence
By t. Samuel Plelfie, editor
MIAMI—ATC International, a voice, data and security integrator, announced this week the acquisition of JBE Technology, a wireless technology provider based in Hollywood, Fla., serving southern Florida and Latin America. Terms of the deal were not released.
“We were looking to expand our Wi-Fi business,” said ACTI president , “not only on a municipal basis, but we’re also getting a lot of requests from our customers about wireless. Wireless technology is becoming the premiere technology being requested of our company today.”
JBE president Ernie DelSol will join ACTI, along with three of his employees. DelSol’s responsibilities will now include business development for ACTI, which also has an El Salvador office.
JBE has an extensive history in municipal Wi-Fi, having installed a four-square-mile WiUi hot zone in Hollywood, for instance, and has installed point-to-point wireless networks on a number of campus environments.
“Now,” said DelSol, “you have the ability to put a camera anywhere ... and for access control, the industry is going to a controller-per- door. With wireless, the connection is easily established,” and there’s money to be saved in reduced wiring. “The cost is cheaper, much cheaper, than running a wire,” said DelSol, when it comes to large installations. His company, he said, has ironed out a number of the early wireless pitfalls, and is ready to combine with ACTI to push the technology further into the security field.

—Ernie DelSol, ACTI, former president of JBETechnology
In other ACTI news, the company has just opened new offices in Orlando, Fla., and Port Neches, Texas, where they will operate as ATC Security Technology.
Both locations are attractive because of booming construction markets and because of our acquisition ofJBE, we now have additional services, such as triple play, voice, video, and data.

Miami – Students in Miami-Dade County will be safer when they return to several public schools next school year, due to major security improvements being implemented now. Miami-Dade Public Schools has expanded a successful camera surveillance program already in effect in several schools throughout the county by adding 20 more schools to be completed over the next few months. SOUTH FLORIDA’S TRI-RAIL COMMUTER NETWORK UPGRADES SECURITY
WITH ATC INTERNATIONAL’S WIRELESS CAMERA SECURITY SYSTEM

Miami-Based Security Company Set to Begin Implementation of Innovative System

MIAMI – The South Florida Regional Transportation Authority has selected Miami-based ATC International to install an innovative camera security system throughout the Tri-Rail network – South Florida’s premier commuter rail service. Tri-Rail operates along 72 miles of the South Florida Rail Corridor, with 18 stations located throughout Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties. ATC International designed and created the system, which will enable video to be recorded within each train. The system will allow for a record of events to be captured and referenced, when needed. The project is funded by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
“This is cutting-edge technology,” said , president of ATC International. “ATC’s security system helps the SFRTA remain in the forefront with regard to innovative security systems; recording video while the trains are moving has not been done before.”
The requirements for this project called for a closed-circuit system, hard wired within rolling stock and wireless between train units, with the wireless system signals completely secure. ATC’s interconnected communications network includes video that can be monitored by the individual train conductors and, ultimately, at a central monitoring station; the system can be downloaded at the end of every business day.
ATC is set to begin implementation, with project completion scheduled for July 2006.
“Tri-Rail recognized the need for a comprehensive security system, and other entities -- such as airports, ports, and other public transportation systems – also need to understand that today’s environment calls for creative solutions,” said Phil Gravino, director of ATC’s Government Systems Division.
ATC International is widely recognized as an innovative leader in the technology integration industry. ATC is proficient and knowledgeable in voice, video, data and security systems integration including automation, communications, access control, perimeter systems, closed- circuit television, gates, radio frequency identification, wired and wireless networks, VOIP, fiber optics, biometric identification, wireless mesh networks, video object detection and tracking, alert data management and incident command systems, integration platforms and digital data archiving. Based in Miami, ATC has a Central American operations base in El Salvador and a European gateway office in Rome, Italy. ATC International’s premiere projects and clients include the Miami River Port for the U.S. Department of Justice; Port of Key West for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the Fort-Lauderdale-Hollywood International, Miami International and Palm Beach International airports.

ATC International and GTSI Team to Quickly Deploy Security and Technology Solutions via GTSI’s US Communities Contract

Miami – Miami-based ATC International, a technology systems integrator, and GTSI Corp. (NASDAQ: GTSI), the leading government product and solutions aggregator, have teamed to bring ATC’s widely recognized leadership in electronic technology integration to government agencies and educational institutions. ATC’s range of security and technology solutions allow city, county and state government agencies to quickly set up a secure environment in emergency situations – such as those we have just witnessed in New Orleans and Texas – or to enhance the range and scope of already existing or new environments.

“GTSI’s US Communities Technology Contract enables state and local government entities throughout the US to easily procure our turnkey solutions,” said , president of ATC International. “The benefit is that a government can decide that the ATC solution, including hardware, software, and services, is what they need, and through US Communities, can easily purchase it. Our partnership with GTSI enhances our customers’ ability to get what they want when they need it.”

“We have helped many local government agencies greatly reduce their time to select, purchase and implement technology solutions,” said Duane Thompson, Director of GTSI’s Security Solutions Practice. “We have taken projects that took up to 18 months from planning to implementation and reduced the entire time to as little as two to three months. ATC and GTSI make great partners because we both focus on best-in-class security assessments and solutions for local communities, schools and universities, ports, airports and special districts, such as power and water utilities.”

All of the supplier contracts available through the US Communities Government Purchasing Alliance have been competitively solicited by lead public agencies. “The need to compete these local IT projects through the RFP (Request For Proposal) process is satisfied so that local governments don’t have to reinvent the wheel,” adds Thompson.

GTSI was awarded the Technology Products Contract for US Communities effective May 1, 2003 and has been supplying hundreds of local government agencies throughout the US with a broad range of IT solutions in a number of areas including security.

The US Communities Technology Products Contract enables local governments to save time and money. The cost savings comes from the contract pricing secured through the aggregate purchasing power of the 87,000 local agencies. There are over 12,000 agencies currently participating in the program, with all 50 states represented. It is nationally sponsored by five organizations – Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO), National Association of Counties (NACo), National Institute of Government Purchasing (NIGP), National League of Cities (NLC) and US Conference of Mayors (USCOM), and directed by a National Advisory Board of public purchasing professionals.
